STAMFORD, CT — Democrat Eilish Collins Main on Wednesday announced her candidacy for Stamford's 146th State House District, which spans over much of the South End neighborhood, Shippan and downtown.
The district is curently represented by Democrat David Michel, who announced that he will seek re-election for a fourth term, according to a Stamford Advocate story from February.
In 2022, Michel defeated Republican challenger Jessica Demmo and Independent Thomas Concannon.
"Through my own lived experiences, I know what it means to be the child of immigrants, to be a working parent in need of high quality, affordable childcare, and to navigate health care and social services for an aging parent," said Collins Main in an announcement. "When I listen to residents in our district, I hear their concerns about everything from affording monthly expenses and improving pedestrian safety and creating safe, walkable neighborhoods to our need to focus on greater sustainability and resilience as a coastal community."
Collins Main was born in Stamford and raised her three children there, according to her announcement.
Along with a career in marketing and business development in the education technology sector, she has volunteered at Stamford's Building One Community, the Police Activities League PAL ART program, the League of Women Voters and the outreach programs at St. Francis Episcopal church, her announcement noted.
She has also been an active member of the Stamford Democratic City Committee and has run campaigns to support both state and local elected candidates, and "important public information, bi-partisan initiatives," according to her campaign website.
"I understand the challenges of everyday life in Stamford, and I also understand that the 146th District is a microcosm of the diversity and vibrancy that defines Stamford," Collins Main added in her announcement. "I look forward to meeting and listening to more area residents, hearing what matters to them, and becoming a supportive advocate in Hartford to help enact meaningful legislation that serves the needs of the people in the heart of Stamford."
